Not surprisingly, the presence of anti-Catholic sites on the web has provoked a Catholic response. The sites on this page are devoted to responding to anti-Catholicism in general, and to religious anti-Catholicism in particular. Most of these sites are maintained by self-identified conservative Catholics (or "orthodox" Catholics as they sometimes refer to themselves). They are very often willing to engage anti-Catholics in extended debates which can become quite rancorous. (Examples of such debates can be found on any of the religious anti-Catholic sites that maintains a discussion forum.)
There are many Catholic web sites containing a wealth of information about Catholic belief and practice in general. A number of people have written to me to ask that their sites be included here. However, I have restricted myself to those sites which directly address anti-Catholicism.
This organization describes itself as "one of the nation’s largest lay-run apostolates of Catholic apologetics and evangelization." It was founded by Karl Keating, author of Catholicism and Fundamentalism, a book which is devoted to refuting attacks on the Catholic Church by anti-Catholics. (The Christian Research Institute has written a cautiously favorable review of his book.) They have a section devoted to refuting the claims of anti-Catholics. For example, see their critique of Loraine Boettner's book, Roman Catholicism.
A Catholic apologetics site maintained by Larry Nolte. It contains a point by point rebuttal to an anonymous tract the found on the Net. The tract is quite typical and so his response is widely applicable.
This site does not appear to be active any longer. However, an archived copy can be found at www.archive.org.
A web-site devoted exclusively to responding to the anti-Catholic tracts published by Chick Publications. This site is part of the Catholic Apologetics site Una Fides, maintained by members of the Gallagher family. (However, as of 08/11/04 it did not seem possible to access this particular page from the home page.) They also have a response to Mission to Catholics International, another anti-Catholic organization.
A Catholic evangelism site maintained by Jerome D'Costa. The section Between Roman Catholics and Other Christians contains articles for responding to religious anti-Catholicism, and the section Catholic Web Links contains an extensive collection of links to other sites which discuss anti-Catholicism.
A web site maintained by a Catholic priest, Fr. Ronald Vierling, which provides a wide variety of Catholic resources. He has compiled a very large collection of links to sites which respond to anti-Catholicism. Many of these links are devoted to responding to critics of Pius XII.
The following organizations are devoted to combating both religious and secular anti-Catholicism.
An organization which focuses on media images of Catholics and anti-Catholic bias in the political arena. Of interest is their opposition to the ACLU. Some of their stands are controversial within the Catholic Church: for example, their steadfast defense of the actions of Pius XII during World War II, which seems to construe any criticism of Pius XII as anti-Catholicism.
A Canadian organization which also focuses on media and politics. Of interest is their brief summary of stories they believe were underreported by the secular media.
A regional organization based in Minnesota.
